Abominable Bush - 9/22/9

Observe the small bush - abominable bush. (I realize that it’s actually a type of grass and not a bush, but I don’t know what kind, so I like to think of it as a bush!)

There is a little bush that Holly and I walk by several times a day. Now she is albeit an energized dog, but lady-like. But when she sees this bush, she jumps on it with a savageness of a warring pygmy. (She being short and dark!). She straddles that bush and lifts her leg like a boy dog! Even if she has done her “duty” 17 times along our walk, therefore should have nothing left to give, once she sees this bush she will ring at least a drop of disdain upon the bush. If we happen to walk by the bush at the beginning of the walk rather than the end – well, you can imagine! That poor, wretched bush!! I’ve contemplated Holly’s brutishness (obviously I need bigger things to contemplate!) and I’ve come to 2 conclusions.

1. The bush gives off some odor that kicks in Holly’s primitive pre-walking on all fours instinct.
2. The bush - in its youth or childhood, must have done something bad (in a Sound of Music-esque way). Holly’s natural internal moral code is incensed and she must mete out justice/punishment.

Then, of course, there is the 3rd answer, personally I find logical, therefore ho-hum and abhorrent.

3. Some dog previously/currently in residence happened to “let loose” on the bush, Holly is responding by y marking her territory - the bush. The only thing that would save this conclusion for me is that the dog still leaves a message in code on the bush and Holly replies. A kind of dog morose code. You know – dot, dash – we’re going over the wall at midnight!

Come to think of it, Holly would look pretty darn cute in a trench coat and Fedora!

Weird Things 8/21/9

1. When I would rather stay up in the evening, but know that I need to go to bed for the next day, I lay width-wise across my bed. As I get sleepy, inches at a time I turn until I am length-wise in the bed. About a 30 minute process. I’m not sure why I do this. Maybe I’m giving the night up in stages and with the turning, my mind unwinds. Yep – let’s believe there’s a good explanation!

2. While cleaning my house, I listen to the “Donna Reed Show” theme song. I don’t go as far as to put on pearls, but that may only be that I don’t own pearls. I have a sneaking suspension if a perfect strand were mine; they would accessorize my house cleaning attire – shorts and t-shirt.

3. The very first CD I bought low these 10+ years ago, was “The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire.” I have listened to it at least once a week - I'm listening to them now! Yaow! It makes me want to dance and sing the high parts loudly.

4. If I were president – Rain day/snow day, all the same thing. Schools and businesses should close!
I stop. Books, & hot tea in hand, the dogs (see adorable puppy pile photo!) and I go out to the covered balcony. Time to breathe, smell, think, see, quiet, read, watch, pet, sip, listen – all! Just like snow days, if when the rain begins I’m already out and about, it’s time to play! I take off my shoes, even if I’m in a suit or dress and walk through the puddles.
During tour season I have my rain attire down to a science. I wear Chaco’s, shorts and a $.099 emergency poncho – preferably blue or yellow. The poncho comes to the length of the shorts, it keeps my bag and jacket dry; the Chaco’s walk through anything and dry off in moments. Everyone else is walking around in soaked through jeans, socks & shoes, their belongings are wet, and they’ve hit each other in the eye 53 times with their umbrellas, which only keeps your hair dry. Meanwhile - I’m ”Singing in the Rain” literally. This is when I know how fun my group will be, if they join in – fun! If they complain about the weather or my singing – not fun!

5. As soon as I get out of bed, I make it. In moments the room feels put together. If I were married, how would my imaginary husband feel about getting the bed made up right around his imaginary head if he hadn’t sprang out the very moment I did?

6. We have so many fancy foods on TV, in the restaurants (“bistros”), even in the frozen food section of the market. So why do I feel I’ve treated myself luxuriously when I have the Best peanut butter & jelly sandwich in the world? OroWheat Whole Grain Bread, Reece’s Creamy Peanut Butter, Shmucker’s Blackberry Jelly & Red Raspberry Jelly. Cut into triangles – of course. Best accompaniment: Ruffles with Ridges, Blackberry/Pomegranate White Tea ice cold, and Angel Food Cake with a bit of homemade Almond Orange Glaze. Yes, I realize this refined menu is disguised as a 3rd grade lunch. Man – now I’m hungry!!
